HTML Entity Encoder / Decoder

Encode and decode HTML entities in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Limit: 50 MB per file.

Encode

Special characters such as &, <, > and quotes become HTML entities. Common characters use preferred names; other non-ASCII characters use numeric entities.

Decode

Named and numeric entities such as &, & and & are converted back to text. Invalid sequences show a clear error and leave the previous output unchanged.

Privacy

Encoding and decoding run on your device. There is no account, no upload, and no LocalStorage of your content. Closing the tab discards unsaved text.

Which named entities are supported?

The complete HTML5 named character reference list is supported: every semicolon-terminated name from the HTML Standard, including amp, lt, gt, quot, apos, and nbsp. Names outside that list are rejected on decode.

What happens to Unicode and non-ASCII characters?

Named mode uses a preferred name when one exists, such as ä or €. Characters without a name, including many emoji, are written as decimal numeric entities. Decimal and Hex numeric modes write only numeric entities.

What happens with invalid entities?

Decode requires valid named or numeric entities terminated with a semicolon. Unknown names, missing semicolons, surrogates, and code points outside the Unicode range report an error with a character position. The previous output is left unchanged.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Everything stays in the browser. Open, encode, decode, copy, and save all run locally.
